Overview

A Textile Arts Networking Gathering

Threads of Connection! Join us on March 26 at 1pm at the West Guilford Community Centre for a Visual Artists and Artisans Roundtable.

An initiative through the Arts Council of Haliburton, Threads of Connection is a gathering for textile artists, crafters and creatives, to meet & mingle, exchange ideas, and share resources and inspiration.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just exploring the world of textiles, this gathering is for you!

We’ve taken a bit of time off since our last gathering in West Guilford and are ready to put plans in place for 2026.

Since we last saw you, we have held one workshop in Stanhope. It was needle felting with Sandi Luck. From the copious supplies we had, everyone made, and, I believe, finished a 5x7 scene. It’s amazing what we can do when we have the time. We had forests, farmland, waterscapes and kitchen gardens. Eleven folks participated and had the opportunity to see some of the techniques of needle felted jewelry.

Moving forward, we have a couple of ideas waiting in the wings to discuss – one is what we are calling Studio Time at the College and the other, The Threads of Connection Challenge. We can’t wait to tell you more about both of these activities at our next gathering.

Our next gathering is on March 26 from 1:00 – 3:30 pm at the West Guilford Recreation Centre. This building is accessible for those that require it.This building is accessible for those that require it. We are planning to have some demonstrators that we have missed along the way and some show and tell.

We would like it if you would bring any samples of homemade bags that you have that you think would be of interest to the group. We would like to start gathering some of those patterns for our Studio Time.

We are also going to be bold and put out a challenge for the March 26th meeting. The Challenge is to create a 3-dimensional object from the fibre(s) of your choice. Please consider this challenge. We will be excited by what you do. Bring your plans, your frustrations and joys!

Registration is not required, but always appreciated.

We have also created a private Facebook group to help us stay in touch, and give us a place to share photos, ideas, resources, and ask questions between meetings. You can find the group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/threadsofconnection/

Please pass this event on to your friends who don’t know about our group yet and invite them to join us on Facebook.

Admission is free for Arts Council members and $5 for non-members.

Registration is requested, but not required.
