🌲 Unlock the Future of Timber Design with Timber Tech Connect! 🌲We're excited to announce our 2nd event in collaboration between TWIG, Fast + Epp, and CAWP. This series of dynamic events is hosted at Concept Lab, an innovative R&amp;D space located within Fast + Epp's Vancouver headquarters.Timber Tech Connect offers an up-close look at the latest innovations in timber design and the individuals driving progress in wood-based design, engineering, architecture, and construction. Through these events, we aim to provide a platform for networking, learning, and exploring the possibilities of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), sustainability and low-carbon construction, building systems and the overall methodologies of timber constructionThis event will feature a presentation from UBC's Dr. Haibo Feng - Assistant Professor in the Department of Wood Science. Dr. Haibos presentation will cover the following topics. <ul><li>The quick review of Vancouver embodied carbon guidelines and impacts to wood industry</li><li>The current status of LCA/EPD calculations in timber suppliers in Canada</li><li>The tall wood building design challenges and the research going on UBC sustainable built environment lab</li><li>Next step for zero carbon timber building designs</li></ul>Additionally Haibo there will be some research presentations from students under <a href="https://forestry.ubc.ca/faculty-profile/cristiano-loss/" title="https://forestry.ubc.ca/faculty-profile/cristiano-loss/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cristiano Loss</a> at UBC and we will hear updates from Brandon @ Concept Lab on some ideas for moment-connected CLT panels that they have been working on with UNBC. Food and Drinks will be provided as part of your ticket. <a href="https://forestry.ubc.ca/faculty-profile/haibo-feng/" title="https://forestry.ubc.ca/faculty-profile/haibo-feng/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">About Haibo</a>Haibo received his PhD training in UBC Civil Engineering in the field of Sustainable Construction. He was an Assistant Professor for over 2 years at Northumbria University in the UK before joining the Department of Wood Science at UBC Forestry. He also worked in the construction industry for over 6 years on construction management and sustainable building design.Dr. Feng’s research area is in green building, building information modelling, life cycle assessment and building energy performance. He has extensive industrial and research experience on promoting sustainable building construction with the integration of advanced building systems and renewable energy supports. He has practical knowledge on various building rating systems including LEED, BREEAM, Passive house, BC Energy STEP Code, Zero Carbon Building, EnerGuide. His work focuses on integrating innovative technologies into sustainable building design to achieve low carbon buildings with the consideration of social and economic impacts. He is particularly interested in using mass timber products to promote zero-carbon timber frame buildings. He also has extensive local and global experience in sustainable building design and construction management. He will continue his research on the development of the Sustainable Built Environment Centre. .................................................................................................................................. We hosted the inaugural event of this timber innovation series in September 2023 with an incredible turnout, and we greatly appreciated the conversations that emerged at our round table discussion leading us to launch our next series of events to take place quarterly. The events we are planning are based around the following themes: <ul><li>Sustainability + Building Performance</li><li>Building systems + Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)</li><li>Offsite Construction, Project planning + Integration</li><li>Project case studies</li></ul>Our purpose with these events is to establish a consistent series that brings together experts from various fields, and those eager to learn more about timber construction. As the mass timber industry continues to grow, our mission is to support individuals and firms throughout the innovation process, equipping them with the knowledge needed to excel in wood-based construction. We also conduct and coordinate applied research and development and support the award-winning B.Sc. in Wood Products Processing and its cooperative education program
