Last year, the <a href="https://uofttrashteam.ca/fightingfloatables/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">University of Toronto (U of T) Trash Team’s Fighting Floatables</a> program removed 100 kg of plastic pollution from the Toronto Harbour, including more than 90,000 pieces of microplastics. By monitoring plastic pollution and other anthropogenic debris captured by trash traps, we’re better able to understand the issue and inform local solutions upstream. <h3>On Saturday August 12, join us for a Trash Trap Dive, a one-of-a-kind opportunity to peek behind the scenes of this important work.</h3>You’ll have the unique opportunity to:<ul><li>Meet members of the <a href="https://partnersinprojectgreen.com/programs/the-toronto-inner-harbour-floatables-strategy/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Toronto Inner Harbour Floatables Strategy</a></li><li>Get hands-on with a team of researchers</li><li>Learn how we characterize both large and small items collected by trash traps</li><li>Learn about microplastics, where they come from and how we can prevent them from reaching Lake Ontario and eventually the ocean.</li></ul>Event details:<ul><li>Date: Saturday, August 12th, 2023 at 10 am (arrive by 9:45 to check in).</li><li>Where: Marina Quay West (539 Queen Quay W, Toronto). <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit?mid=1zE_EPFTqY2OFn8bshvySs6EVHKX6AWI&amp;usp=sharing" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">View map</a></li><li>What to bring: All tools will be provided, please dress for the weather. </li><li>Stick around until the end for a raffle!</li></ul>This important work contributes to the <a href="https://partnersinprojectgreen.com/programs/the-toronto-inner-harbour-floatables-strategy/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Toronto Inner Harbour Floatables Strategy</a>, a collaborative strategy to reduce plastic pollution and other floating litter in the harbour.
