Truth BEFORE Reconciliation: Before we can have healing, we need to have honesty. Join us as we gather for National Truth and Reconciliation Day, September 30th, 2022. We are LIVE at the Vic Theatre in Victoria BC. for an evening of film, art, community and connection. Featuring a viewing of “Healing Nation” by Symbia Barnaby. Symbia Barnaby is an Indigenous woman of Haida and Mi’kmaq descent living in northern British Columbia. Her traditional Haida name is Guu Gaa Jung and her spirit name is Warrior Woman. Symbia is a nurse with a passion for community healing. She is a storyteller, a filmmaker, an activist and a Wisdom Translator. This film is a testament to the power of sharing our stories and proof that with honesty, gentleness and compassion - we can find the strength to speak our truth- to tell our stories and heal a nation. please visit www.healingnationfilm.ca to learn more about the film and it&#x27;s creationThe lasting legacy of residential schools and the displacement caused by these institutions is not something of our past. It is still very much part of our lived reality. Foster care, forced removal, birth alerts- are all reflections of the same institutions that stole our children years ago. We will discuss what it means to address intergenerational trauma, to heal ourselves, our families and our nations. SNIWWOC will be hosting an open discussion after the film with Symbia to discuss the legacy of displacement, familial trauma and the power of healing through storytelling. You will have a chance to speak with Symbia about her film and work, ask her questions and share with us about your own journey. This is an event you will not want to miss! Please join us for this night of healing, honesty and community. Suggested donation is $15 per person, though no one will be turned away due to financial barriers. All donation denomination greatly appreciated in supporting our many programs that support BIPOC women in our communities.
