TSA Technical Series: Part 9 Structural Systems (Part 1)

TSA Technical Series: Part 9 Structural Systems (Part 1)

Online event
Tuesday, Mar 17 from 12 pm to 1 pm EDT
Overview

Part one of a webinar series reviewing structural systems in Part 9 of the OBC.

While architects and designers often engage engineers for structural design, having solid foundational knowledge about structural systems can help bridge the gap between concept and coordination, reducing surprises down the line.

Join us and Jake Greenhow of Blackwell for a special two-part lecture series for architectural professionals focusing on the structural systems and limitations of buildings under Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code (Housing and Small Buildings).

For our first session, we’ll dive into everything structural in Part 9, other than lateral systems—which will be covered in Part 2 of this series—including key considerations for:

  • Structural loads
  • Foundations and underpinning
  • Guards
  • Masonry
  • Chimneys and fireplaces
  • Wood frame construction

It will also include a brief introduction to TACBOC standard details.

This lecture will be followed by TSA Technical Series: Part 9 Structural Systems (Part 2), where our speaker will explore best practices regarding the lateral systems of Part 9 structures that help to guard against wind and seismic forces, as well as review the most recent changes to this part of the OBC.
