TSA Year End BASH 2022

Established in 1887, the Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) is a non-profit volunteer-led organization dedicated to bringing people together to discuss, learn and explore around our shared passion for the built environment. We are committed to the betterment of our city and have played an important advocacy role throughout Toronto’s history. We do this through a wide range of programs which foster welcoming and inclusive forums for debate and the exchange of ideas, stimulating critical thinking about the design and building issues of our time.

The wait is finally over. After a 2 year hiatus, the TSA BASH—Toronto’s architectural community's biggest celebration—is back!A long-established tradition, the Toronto Society of Architects' annual year-end BASH is an opportunity for the GTA’s architecture and design community to come together and celebrate in unique spaces across our city. No two years are alike, with a new featured venue chosen every year and the party tailored to reflect the design stories behind the building. Great food, delicious drinks, and beautiful architecture—there is no better way to celebrate our city and those who shape it!

<h2>This Year's Venue: John Street Roundhouse</h2>The return of a landmark party deserves a landmark venue. For 2022 we are excited to be bringing the party to a hub bridging our city’s past and future: John Street Roundhouse! Built in 1929 by the Canadian Pacific Railway, this uniquely shaped facility once provided servicing and light repairs to passenger steam locomotives used at nearby Union Station. Divided into individual stalls, the roundhouse could serve 32 locomotives at any time which were moved in and out of the structure on a massive rotating turntable. Remaining largely empty for over a decade after its closure in 1986, this National Historic Site is now exemplary of adaptive reuse—the heritage structure carefully tuned to host a brewery, event space, restaurant, and a railway museum, while the surrounding yards have been converted into a new downtown park. The revitalization efforts were led by architect Donald J. Come for the first hour of the BASH and join us on a tour exploring the past and present of this year’s venue!

Our tours will start with a ride on the roundhouse’s massive 36.5m long rotating <a href="http://www.trha.ca/trha/collections/structures/turntable/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">restored turntable</a> which was used to position locomotives into their stalls. Volunteers of the Toronto Railway Museum will share with us the history behind this structure, its former use, and how it all works. After your ride, we’ll bridge the building’s past with its present as the tour continues with short walk with architect Donald J. Loucks, who led the revitalization efforts of the Roundhouse.

The tours will start at 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7:00 PM. Tours are open to all ticket holders but limited space is available. <h1>FAQ</h1>What does my ticket include?Tickets are all-inclusive! Throughout the evening this includes all drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), passed hors d'oeuvres, and access to the special tours from 6:00 - 7:00 PM!Is my registration/ticket transferable?TSA Member Tickets are NON-transferable and valid only for the registered named ticket holder. Non-Member tickets are fully transferable since they are full price. Refunds are available up to 48 hours before the event.If I am a TSA Member, can I buy tickets for friends or family who are not members, but still pay the Member ticket rate?Each discounted Member Ticket must be registered to a unique TSA Member (max 1 ticket per TSA member). All member tickets will be checked against membership lists. Not a member yet? General membership is only $65 and includes tons of free and discounted events throughout the year. <a href="https://www.joinit.org/o/tsa" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Click here to join!</a> Do I have to bring my ticket to the event?YES! To make check in as easy as possible, please have your ticket displayed on your smartphone for easy scanning. If you don’t have a smartphone, we are able to check in guests using the full name as it appears on the ticket. Will there be tickets available at the door to purchase?The TSA BASH often sells out, so we encourage you to purchase your ticket online in order to avoid disappointment. If space is available, tickets will be available at the door (exact change only).What is the refund policy?Refunds for online ticket purchases are available up to 48 hours before the event. Within 48 hours of the event no refunds will be permitted. To request a refund, please email tsa@torontosocietyofarchitects.ca.How do I get to the event on the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission)?The closest subway station and GO Train station to this year’s venue is Union Station. Once you arrive at Union Station you can walk through the covered PATH / Skywalk system following the signs to the CN Tower/Ripley’s Aquarium. The roundhouse is south of Bremner Boulevard.Where is the nearest parking?There is no on-site parking at this venue and we highly recommend taking public transit if possible. The closest paid parking facility is the <a href="https://www.mtccc.com/locations/getting-here/?tab=parkingRates" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Metro Toronto Convention Centre South Garage</a> with access at Lower Simcoe Street.Where can I park my bike?There are some bike rings on the north and east sidewalks around the venue. There is also a Bike Share station on the north end of the park on the northwest end of the roundhouse. Can you store my coat/bag?Complimentary coat and bag check will be provided. We encourage you to only bring what you need as limited space is available.
