Humanities and Social Sciences

Join us every Tuesday afternoon at 2pm for a selection of thoughtful, engaging, and entertaining documentaries.
All are welcome, no registration required.  
Although non-alcoholic beverages are permitted, food is allowed only on the main floor of the library.
Please, note that the program is subject to change, and will be updated continuously.  UPCOMING FILMS 
April 30 - Faces Places. Director Agnes Varda and photographer/muralist J.R. form an unlikely friendship, travelling around rural France and creating large-scale portraits of the people they come across. (2017, 89 min.)
May 7 - Look of Silence. An Indonesian man with a communist background named Ramli was brutally murdered when the "Communist" purge occurred in 1965. His remaining family members lived in fear and silence until Adi, a Optometrist brother of his, decided to revisit the horrific incident and visited the men who were responsible for the killings and one survivor of the purge. (2014, 103 min.)
May 14 - A Suitable Girl. Three young women in India struggling to maintain their identities and follow their dreams amid intense pressure to get married. The film examines the women's complex relationship with marriage, family, and society. (2017, 90 min.)
May 21 - After Auschwitz. After being liberated from Auschwitz, 6 female survivors moved to America to try to find a sense of normalcy after their tragic and traumatic experiences. (2018, 82 min.)
May 28 - To be Takei. A look at the many roles played by eclectic actor/activist George Takei, whose wit, humor and grace during his coming out have made him an internationally beloved figure and Internet phenomenon with millions of fans. (2014, 94 min.)
