The panel will be moderated by River Holland-Valade, Peer Support &amp; Outreach Worker with the Mental Health Team at De dwa da dehs nye&gt;s Aboriginal Health Centre, and the wonderful panelists include: Nenookaasi Ochrym, Linda Burgess aka “Okie,” and Chickadee Schrirru. This event is free. This event will be closed captioned. This event is open everyone. More about the speakers!Panelist: Nenookaasi Ochrym is born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. A Afro-Indigenous 2Spirit Queer Wife and mother of three, Neno is an activist for Black, Indigenous and 2SLGBTQI+ rights through mixed media and music.Panelist: Mobbing Chickadee is a Twin Spirit from the Eastern Metis Nation, with their root nations being the Mohawk, Wolf Clan, of Six Nations of the Grand River and the Abanaki, Odanak Reserve, of the Wabanaki Confederacy. They have grown up in and currently reside in the Dish With One Spoon Wampum territory, specifically in the Between the Waters Purchase. They first questioned gender at age 10 and began identifying as a transgender man, seeing man and woman as the only two options. Since reconnecting with their culture and learning more about gender science, they realized there is so much more to the beautiful spectrum of gender. Today they openly identify as a genderfluid Twin Spirit. They are a storytelling textile artisan with their business Turkey Tales. Their plans are to attend the Anishinabek Institute to follow a career as a therapist for Native youth at risk. Panelist: Linda Burgess aka “Okie”, spirit name MoonTree Woman, is a First Nations Choctaw woman from Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She is community elder, a pillar in the community. She speaks with a southern twang but has lived in Canada for over 20 years. But if you ask if she’s American, she’ll retort that she is neither American nor Canadian. She is a citizen of Mother Earth. She shares the teachings, with a focus on the historical and spiritual role of two-spirit people. She is known for her compassion, big heart and personality. She shares her story to inspire and uplift the people in order to facilitate healing in others. You can see her at various public speaking ventures, drumming with the Strong Water Women and likely sharing a one-on-one supportive conversation.Moderator, River Holland-Valade:River Holland-Valade (they/wiin) is a Two-Spirit identified Peer Support &amp; Outreach Worker with the Mental Health Team at De dwa da dehs nye&gt;s Aboriginal Health Centre in the Hamilton &amp; Niagara Regions. River is a proud mixed race Anishinaabe-Metis person (with other settler ancestries) who grew up in Hamilton and graduated with their Bachelors' of Social Work degree from McMaster University in 2020. They are a fierce advocate for Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ communities in Southern Ontario and they also facilitate a virtual 2SLGBTQ+ circle for Indigenous community members in Hamilton, Brantford &amp; Niagara Regions.
