MAR Shift Presents... Understanding Discrimination

Wondering what the difference is between discrimination, bullying, harassment, and bigotry?

Join us for an interactive and informative 1.5-hour virtual workshop facilitated by Kerry Cavers, Founder & President of Moms Against Racism Canada, and Reighan Hill, MAR Talks and MAR Shift Program Coordinator. With compassion, connection, and practical guidance, they will help you build the understanding and confidence to recognize discrimination and take meaningful action.

This workshop is especially timely as we observe Pink Shirt Day in February, which raises awareness about bullying while promoting empathy, inclusion, and kindness in schools and communities, and Zero Discrimination Day in March, which aims to promote global solidarity to end discrimination for good.

Through reflection, discussion, and guided exploration, participants will dive into:

  • Fundamental definitionsLearn what discrimination is, and how it differs from bullying, harassment, and bigotry
  • Who is impactedGain insight into the experiences of individuals and communities affected by discrimination
  • Why discrimination happens Explore the social, cultural, and psychological dynamics that drive discriminatory behavior
  • Taking actionDiscover practical strategies for standing up to discrimination and promoting equity and inclusion
  • Questions & AnswersDiscuss real-life scenarios and get guidance on navigating challenging situations

At the end of the session, participants will also receive additional resources to continue learning, reflecting, and taking action long after the workshop ends.
