A Question of Care (QoC) is a Peterborough-based capacity-building initiative focused on building and strengthening skills, knowledge, and awareness to address the intersections between substance use, stigma, mental illness, and trauma. All necessary dial-in information will be provided to those who register.Course DescriptionThis interactive, engaging workshop series will cover information about and related to substance use, including viewing substance use on a continuum, substance use effects, how people make change, review of an abstinence approach and a harm reduction approach, recovery treatment options in Ontario, stamping out stigma, and recovery concepts.Please note that this is a revised and updated version of the workshop formally called Addictions 101: Exploring Substance Use and Gambling.Learning Objectives<ul><li>Introduction to or a refresher of addiction concepts</li><li>Develop a deeper understanding of substance use</li><li>Team building</li><li>Opportunity to learn from each other</li><li>Explore work through a concurrent disorder lens</li></ul>Facilitator BiographiesCheryl RobinsonCheryl Robinson first entered the helping professions over twenty-five years ago, by working at a shelter for men experiencing homelessness. It was there at the shelter that she became aware of the devastating cycle of addiction. Cheryl has been offering counselling for individuals concerned with their mental health and addictions for over 16 years and has been a registered psychotherapist since 2015. Cheryl has been the Clinical Director of the Canadian Health Recovery Centre since 2019 where her dream of seeing individuals being able to access the holistic resources needed to heal mind, body, and spirit has been realized.Ashley DavidsonAshley Davidson started in the mental health and addiction field in 2013. She started her work in community treatment with individuals who were living in shelters or experiencing homelessness. Ashley continued her work through assessment and triage at an addiction community treatment agency for three years. Currently, Ashley serves as the Admission Co-Ordinator at the Canadian Health Recovery Centre. We define &quot;helping professional&quot; as anyone in a position of interacting with people in providing a service.How many people can attend?Registration for this workshop series has been capped at 35 participants.What is a level one core QoC workshop?This refers to a workshop that is a part of QoC&#x27;s core curriculum and is offered at a more basic level, though it can be beneficial to anyone regardless of their experience in the field.Do I need to attend all of the sessions?You must be able to attend at least two out of the three workshops. If you miss one workshop, you will be sent the recording to review. All attendees will receive certificates of attendance for participating in a minimum of 2/3 workshops.Will these sessions be recorded?Yes. These workshops will be recorded and limited-time links will be sent to participants who miss one session.What is your refund policy?We can offer refunds up to seven days before the first workshop. Eventbrite&#x27;s fee is nonrefundable. After this period, we can accept substitutions.
