The event will take place over Zoom on Friday, April 21st from 12 pm - 1:30 pm. Read below to learn about our presenters and the topics they will explore!Dr. Benedict Carpenter van BartholdSculptor, Principal LecturerNottingham Trent University, School of Art &amp; DesignInformation:As an experienced artist and educator, Dr. Benedict Carpenter van Barthold (Ben) has demonstrated aptitude for leadership in both the academic and artistic world. His accomplishments as an artist include receiving the Jerwood Sculpture Prize 2001 as well as exhibiting at the Venice Biennale, Arsenale 2005. His work is in collections across Europe, including The British Museum, London, and he has completed a number of permanently sited public sculptural commissions. He is Principal Lecturer in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University, and a Non-Executive Director at Vieunite, where he is part of a team using Ai to construct an innovative community marketplace for creative individuals and collectors alike.AI generated images, video and music are suddenly everywhere. In this presentation, Dr. Carpenter van Barthold explores three questions: What new literacies should arts educators promote? What might the future of arts practice look like? I thrive at the intersections between disciplines. My core background is in computation and managing software projects, but I maintain deep interests in science, particularly biology and I founded Canada&#x27;s first community biology lab at the Victoria Makerspace. I presently lead a National Research Council funded project on geospatial analytics.”Derek’s presentation will describe uses of generative AI to create multi-view neural scene representations and the user scenarios that these enable.Contact: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derekja/Orla McElroyOrla McElroy is an MSc student of Media and Communications Studies at Lund University in Sweden. Following her undergraduate dissertation on the social, economic, and political implications of pandemic media coverage while studying English Literature at Durham University, Orla identified an interest in examining how media companies can seek to balance their ethical and moral duties with their capacities as functioning business models. Her thesis research examines AI for operational and editorial purposes within news media organizations, alongside the implications of their use, and looks to develop framework for future analysis.
