We invite you to listen and learn from Knowledge Holders from the xʷmə?kʷəyəm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Hear stories that have defined this land for millennia. Hear from local Coast Salish Knowledge Holders as they share some of their Nations&#x27; chronicles of the West End area: Chrystal Sparrow: xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam); Aaron Nelson-Moody: Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish); Gabriel George: səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. </li><li>Attend the Public Information Session on Visioning Results on December 8, which marks the final steps of the visioning work created with the community during the W.E. Connect engagement process. The framework will reflect our commitment to reconciliation and declare the purpose and aspirations of the future West End Community Hub and will help define space use needs for the site.</li><li>In early 2022, participate in in-person events and complete an online survey to further explore the community’s space needs. This input, along with other research being conducted, will lead to options of design concepts for the site. Connect is a project led by the City of Vancouver, Vancouver School Board, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Vancouver Public Library, and the West End Community Centre Association. This work builds on previous community engagement processes and takes direction from the West End Community Plan, VSB Long Range Facilities Plan, Vancouver Public Library Strategic Plan, and VanPlay.This project will produce a renewal plan - a document that will guide and direct the future of the site’s buildings, programming, and outdoor spaces. <ul><li>The West End Community Centre will be replaced to meet the needs of the growing West End neighbourhood, including renewal of an ice rink.</li><li>King George Secondary School will be redeveloped to provide more spaces for students and meet seismic upgrade requirements.</li><li>Joe Fortes Public Library will be expanded to provide a larger library space.</li><li>The renewed community hub will likely have combined and shared programming spaces. Other potential uses that could serve the West End will be considered for addition or expansion in the renewal plan, including a relocation of Firehall No. 6, childcare, seniors’ spaces, and arts and culture facilities.</li></ul>____________________________________________________________________________<h2>Technology Requirements</h2>Some of the events will be presented in a participatory web meeting format. To engage fully in the online events, you will need:<ul><li>A laptop, computer, or smartphone</li><li>A webcam (optional)</li><li>A microphone</li><li>Speakers or headphones</li></ul><h2>Access</h2>The project team is committed to providing universal access to all events. Advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs.<h2>COVID-19 Policy and Precautions</h2>We value your safety and that of the West End community. COVID-19 has changed the way we are able to interact with each other. In the interest of comfort and safety, project partners are offering a number of virtual and in-person events to support your involvement in the West End Community Centre Renewal project. All in-person events will be in compliance with the latest direction of the Provincial Health Officer.Consistent with provincial public health direction, proof of vaccination is not required for civic engagement events with less than 50 participants. Masks are mandatory in all public spaces for those 12 and older, even if you are vaccinated. If you are participating in an in-person event, please be respectful and follow the project team’s direction and signage at all times and be mindful of other participants personal space. We hope you will be understanding and flexible with future changes to the event format in the case we are given new direction from the Provincial Health Officer.Despite protocols we have in place for in-person events, we understand that some residents may still feel uncomfortable in indoor settings. If you are uncomfortable with participating in in-person events, make sure to register for one of many virtual engagement sessions! Although workshops are themed, we welcome you to bring your perspectives on any aspect of the Renewal to any of the virtual events.Due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions and the popularity of our in-person events, almost all in-person events are/will likely be &quot;sold out&quot; for registration. If you have already registered for an in-person event, but are now feeling uncomfortable with attending, please contact Anson at weconnect@hcma.ca to cancel your registration so that someone on the waitlist may attend in your place. We will be keeping only one waitlist at a time, consecutive for each in-person event, so please come back to get on new waitlists or email weconnect@hcma.ca.
