Overview

Let's come together to discuss important issues and make a difference at the "We Matter" event!

Overview

Join us for a virtual visit to learn about We Matter, an Indigenous youth-led and nationally registered organization dedicated to Indigenous youth support, hope and life promotion.

Lawson Foundation Child and Youth Diabetes Strategy Virtual Visits - Episode # 13

Each episode in the Virtual Visits series features speakers discussing topics related to health and Indigenous communities. The goal of the series is to inform participants from various sectors about Indigenous communities and their relationships with health and wellness, as well as with chronic diseases like diabetes. The series fosters and encourages relationships among speakers, foundation and nonprofit leaders, researchers, and policymakers to work toward better supporting Indigenous communities.

About the event

In a world that often asks us to mask up, finding a space where you truly feel welcomed or where you matter can be life changing. Join us for an intimate webinar where we pull back the curtain on who We Matter is - our mission, our resources and the community we're building together.

We are honoured to be joined by Ambassador of Hope (AOH) Aydan Joachim.

Aydan will lead us through a deep dive into the Ambassador of Hope Program, sharing her personal journey through the art of storytelling. This isn't just a presentation; it's an invitation to see yourself in the stories of others.

About the Speaker

Know our youth speaker from her own words:

"My name is Aydan Joachim, and my spirit name is Long Time Dancer. I am Cree and Métis from Aseniwuche Winewak Nation and the Mountain Métis of Grande Cache, Alberta.

I am an Indigenous youth advocate and entering my second year as an Ambassador of Hope with We Matter. I currently run our youth council, something I'm deeply proud of, as helping create it and watching it grow has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

I believe strongly in advocating for the land and all living things. Spending time on the land - especially working as a wrangler in the mountains during the summer - grounds me and keeps me connected to traditional knowledge. I am also a powwow dancer, dancing Jingle and Fancy, and I travel across Alberta to stay close to ceremony and culture.

Everything I do is rooted in giving back to my community and carrying forward the teachings passed down to me, in the way I work with youth and the way I walk in this world".
