About this event

This year, the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Regina will host the "What is Engineering?" event. High school students, particularly Grade 12 students interested in Engineering and Science, are invited to attend the virtual presentation to introduce them to the profession of engineering itself and to the programs offered at the University of Regina.

Electronic Systems Engineers apply skills in electronics and computers to the design and operation of products or systems for handling information. Our Electronic Systems Engineering program focuses on analog and digital electronics with key elements of control and telecommunications. Software and computer related courses are added to this electronics and telecommunications core, allowing students to develop greater capability with both hardware and software. Graduates possess a firm grasp of the fundamentals of electronic circuits, communications, networks, software systems, and control theory.

Environmental Systems Engineers apply systems engineering principles to environmental issues associated with water resources, air pollution, transportation, industrial development and waste management. Our Environmental Systems Engineering program has evolved into a program that is popular with students and respected by industry, largely because of its timely combination of environmental knowledge and the systems approach to regional services engineering.

Industrial Systems Engineers become engineering generalists with specialized training in the nature, behaviour, control, and monitoring of engineering systems. Our Industrial Systems Engineering program is designed to develop engineers who can organize and effectively utilize the total resources of modern manufacturing and process industries - materials, machinery, facilities, people and capital. ISE students are trained to recognize the holistic, inter-disciplinary nature of real-world engineering problems.

Software Systems Engineers learn to integrate their knowledge of software development and management with the goals and practices of other disciplines so that they are ableto contribute to the development of new products, processes, and technologies that, without software engineering, would be too complex to safely and effectively manage or operate. Our Software Systems Engineering program is designed to give students the knowledge to analyze, design, and develop software operating on many types of computers and microprocessors. Highlights of the program include construction and engineering of software systems, Internet systems, transaction systems, interactive multimedia systems, and management and information systems; industrial applications; corporate software processes; and software project management.

Petroleum Systems Engineers evaluate oil and gas reserves, develop methods for surface collection and for increasing reservoir production, perform oil and gas treatment, and adapt petroleum technologies to extraction of other important minerals. They also contribute to activities such as pollution remediation and greenhouse gas reduction. Our Petroleum Systems Engineering program teaches evaluation, design, application, and management with respect to petroleum engineering. Advanced computer utilization and automation are also key components of the program.
