Be part of the  team with artist Charmaine Lurch - creating wire sculptures of wild bees for the Sculpture Forest.

Join the Sculpture Forest Wild Bee-Making BeeFrom June 26th to June 30th and August 21st to 26th artist Charmaine Lurch will be in residence in the Haliburton Sculpture Forest on the Haliburton School of Art + Design campus to work with community members to create wire sculptures of wild bees which will be installed in the Sculpture Forest. There are more than 400 kinds of wild bees in Ontario—a third of these bee species are reliant on forest habitat. Over the winter Charmaine has been creating the wire armatures of the bees. Wild bees come in an extraordinary array of unexpected colours. Community members are invited to join Charmaine under the big tent at the front of the College to make the legs and wings for the bees and wrap the bee structures with coloured wire– turning the wire armatures into multi-coloured wild bees. Participation is free and no experience is required. Youth ages 12 and up are welcome.In each of the weeks that Charmaine will be in residence she will be demonstrating the various wire sculpture techniques and sharing knowledge about wild bees, their incredible solitary lives and their vital role as a pollinator of plants. At the end of each week, we will install the bees created during the week in the Sculpture Forest.
