Schneider Haus National Historic Site is a dynamic, community museum located in the heart of downtown Kitchener. A local landmark and one of Kitchener's oldest dwellings, the 1816 homestead was restored and furnished, then opened as a living history museum in 1981. The heart of the complex is a fine Georgian-frame farmhouse that was built by and was home to the area's earliest non-Aboriginal settlers, Joseph and wife Barbara Schneider, Pennsylvania-German Mennonites.

Enjoy a magical, candlelit evening outdoors at Schneider Haus. Explore the grounds by candlelight and discover our twinkling forest. Enjoy musical entertainment on our front porch, storytelling with our friends from the Region of Waterloo Libraries and some tales from Santa Claus himself. Don’t miss out on our reindeer games and homemade cookies to go! Suitable for the whole family. Visits are scheduled for up to 60 minutes.As we work toward a full re-opening, we are continuing with a cautious and gradual approach that prioritizes the safety of our visitors. Seasonal / outdoor clothing is recommended, as this event takes place entirely outdoors and there will be no access to washrooms. The Historic Haus and galleries will be closed. Please plan to wear a mask at this event. Admission: $10.00 per person plus HST (under 2 years = FREE). Members receive a 10 per cent discount. Advance ticket purchase is required for this event, tickets will not be available at the door. Capacity limited. No refunds. Event Date and Times:Saturday, December 11, 2021Saturday, December 18, 2021 Time Tickets available starting at 6:00 p.m. for a 60 minute visit.COVID-19 Precautions in Place for Your Visit:Beginning on October 18, patrons accessing non-essential Region of Waterloo services will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination along with identification. (Acceptable forms of identification must include name and date of birth). Proof can be provided by using a Ministry of Health vaccine receipt or the provincial proof of vaccination system. This will include all indoor and outdoor events and visits to the Region of Waterloo Museums (Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, Schneider Haus National Historic Site, and McDougall Cottage Historic Site).Exemptions apply to patrons with written proof of a medical exemption, written proof of an exemption based on one of the prohibited grounds defined under the Ontario Human Rights Code and those under the age of twelve.This requirement is being put in place to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and to encourage eligible residents who are unvaccinated to obtain a vaccine. All other public health measures (e.g., masking, and physical distancing) continue to apply to patrons accessing Regional services. Walk-in visits may be unavailable due to reduced visitor capacity.</li><li>Choose the date and time for your visit, then enter “MEMBERCODE” into the discount field and select your membership tickets. Verify account holder information and proceed to checkout. </li><li>Please note that your membership must be valid upon booking and presented to Guest Services staff when you arrive. Memberships must be valid on date of visit or access may be denied. </li></ul>As per the Province of Ontario’s document &quot;A Framework for Reopening our Province: Stage 2 &quot; it is recommend that heritage institutions like the Region of Waterloo Museums collect contact information for the purposes of contact tracing. This information would only be shared with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in the event that an individual who attended the museum tests positive for Covid-19, on our about the time you attended.
