Most buses will stop on Western's campus, and the train will stop downtown (south of campus) at the VIA rail station.

The conference is taking place on Saturday, March 7th 2026 from 9:30AM-4:30PM, but you can drop in and out anytime! All are welcome!

WISSLR's 18th annual conference is coming up! Join us on Zoom or in person to learn about research from students of linguistics!

WISSLR 2026 will be a hybrid event, with presentations taking place in person in Conron Hall (UC3110) at University College at Western University in London, Ontario and on Zoom.

Come join us for a day filled with presentations by students from near and far and a keynote presentation from Dr. Ida Toivonen, Professor of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at Carleton University, on the effects of Animacy in language. Most (perhaps all) languages exhibit effects of animacy, where animacy is roughly understood as the classification of entities based on whether they are alive or agentive. This talk will provide examples of animacy effects in several languages, illustrating that the data are not always straightforward.
