Want to learn more about how the use of drone cinematography is being used in today’s film and television production?
Come join Christiaan Cloete from Flying Fish Productions for this three hour seminar and demonstration on all things related to drone camerawork. Christiaan will include information about rules/regulations, advantages of using drones, large vs. small drones and the pros and cons of using each, what’s included in a drone station on set. There will be plenty of time for a Q&A session, as well an opportunity to see demonstrations of the gear. This seminar is ideal for Directors, Assistant Directors, Production Managers, and Locations to learn more about this work.
About Christiaan Cloete
Christiaan was born in South Africa, and at age 19 he left his home country to explore the world. Because of his love for nature and adventure, he pursued a career as a diving instructor and underwater camera operator in Israel, Egypt and Mexico. Christiaan also had a love for technology and decided to return home to continue an education in IT, subsequently working in the UK for two years. Landing in Canada, Christiaan decided to strengthen his skills and joined the Toronto Film School, where he graduated with honors. He then went on to complete a commercial diving program and started working as an underwater camera operator for feature documentaries.
Expanding his technical abilities and camera skills, he saw an opportunity to provide a unique perspective with emerging technologies in cinematography. In 2011, Christiaan started Flying Fish Productions to combine the specialized knowledge and passion necessary to operate in the air, on land, and underwater. Christiaan was invited by the CBC and Global News to discuss UAV/Drone Safety. He was the first to create an education Drone Program for an Ontario college, and continues to promote UAV Safety to other educational facilities.
Because of his expertise in operating UAVs, Christiaan was the first member to be accepted by IATSE 667 as a UAV Pilot.He is also an IATSE667 Stabilized Remote Head Operator for William F White and works part time with Filmotechnic “The Russian Arm” operating their Academy awarded gyro-stabilized camera crane”   
Since the start of Christiaan’s career, he has worked on feature films and documentaries for Discovery, National Geographic, History, BBC America, Global TV, Oasis, and more.

Do I need to register?
Yes, registration is required for this event.
Is this event open to everyone?
No, this event is open to DGC Full and Associate Members currently in Good Standing and participants in the Guild Apprentice Program. You must have pre-paid and registered for this event through this page. There will be no payments taken at the door.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, please bring your ticket as confirmation of your registration.
What is the refund policy?
If you notify the Training department within 1 business day of the event that you can no longer attend, you may request a refund for the course. Once a course has taken place, you are not able to receive a refund.
