Workshop: Building a good JavaScript foundation

Hey - I’m Jacques... former software engineer at Google. Did you know that there’s a crucial step that almost *everyone* unknowingly skips when they start learning their first programming language - and that has a permanent negative effect on your ability to effectively debug and write solid code?
No matter how many hours you’ve logged watching tutorials, courses or bootcamps you’ve taken, or projects you’ve worked on, chances are VERY slim that you learned to code based off of the right foundation - which has to do with training your brain to think like a computer, before you write or even read your first line of JavaScript.
In the first part of the workshop I'll be going over a couple of prevalent misconceptions that are holding back novice developers. In the second part I will invite the audience to use an interactice tool to improve their foundation through active learning. The workshop will be live streamed. A link will be provided 30 minutes before the workshop begins.

I quit my job as a software engineer at Google to become a teacher 3 years ago. More recently, I left my position as head of education at a university coding bootcamp to pursue my dream of teaching online.
