Zikaron BaSalon is a tradition started in 2011 – a meaningful way to commemorate the Holocaust. It passes the torch from official ceremonies and mass assemblies to more intimate, moving and inspirational gatherings, taking place every year in thousands of private living rooms and public settings.Every Zikaron BaSalon event is different, just like every living room looks different. But in the end, we all shape and create the way we remember the Holocaust and the valuable lessons we’ve learned from it.The community behind Zikaron BaSalon includes hosts, participants and speakers taking initiative every year and together create meaningful events. Our volunteers help connect hosts with speakers and work in many ways to ensure this tradition continues and expands. Our community keeps the memory of the Holocaust relevant, even after all Holocaust survivors are no longer with us.Every person that takes part in a Zikaron BaSalon event – no matter how active – helps keep this memory alive.Is our great honor to have Stefania Sitbon as our keynote speaker.Stefania Sitbon is a Holocaust Survivor from Poland. She was born just before the war began, so Stefania doesn’t remember the German invasion, or life before the war.The memories she has are of her childhood, a time when things had changed dramatically. Stefania grew up in the chaos and hunger of the Warsaw Ghetto, where her father had taken up resistance against the Nazis – he later participated in the uprising, which he survived. With the help of a righteous Gentile, Stefania and the other members of her family found temporary refuge in the Warsaw Zoo.From there Stefania and her family were separated and sent to convents and surrounding villages, from which they were liberated in 1945. Her reunited family spent the immediate postwar years in Austria and Poland, after which they emigrated to the new nation of Israel, later deciding to go to Canada.The UJA shinshinim will take part in this meaningful event as well. The UJA shinshinim are young Israelis on a gap year in Toronto between High school and the Army.For us, as Shinshinim, participating in special event like this and hearing testimony of the Holocaust is a privilege and something that must be done especially these days. In days when when people say never again is now, and in days of war in our country, we are obligated to hear stories of the people who fought for their lives, and managed to survive, continuing the legacy of the Jewish people. We believe this is the best time to hear the stories of the survivors, especially when the opportunities to hear them are decreasing.We have remember every story we hear, and pass it on, to keep their story alive.<h3>Please note that the Zikaron BaSalon event will be conducted in Hebrew</h3><h3>זיכרון בסלון</h3>איך משמרים זיכרון? איך מבטיחים שזיכרון השואה נשאר חי ורלוונטי?לאור המלחמה הארורה בישראל והאנטישמיות שמרימה את ראשה בואו לציין יחד איתנו בצורה משמעותית את יום הזיכרון לשואה.בימים אלו, שורדי השואה הם אור גדול ותקווה שנצליח להתגבר על התקופה החשוכה הזו ושהאור אכן עוד יאיר פה.יש לנו את הכבוד לארח את סטפניה סיטבון , ניצולת שואה מפולין.סטפניה סיטבון נולדה לפני תחילת המלחמה, על כן סטפניה לא זוכרת את הפלישה הגרמנית, או את החיים לפני המלחמה.הזיכרונות שיש לה הם מילדותה, תקופה שבה דברים השתנו באופן דרמטי.סטפניה גדלה בתוהו ובוהו וברעב בגטו ורשה, שם אביה לקח חלק בהתנגדות נגד הנאצים ומאוחר יותר השתתף במרד, שאותו שרד.בעזרתו של גוי צדיק, סטפניה ושאר בני משפחתה מצאו מקלט זמני בגן החיות של ורשה. משם הופרדו סטפניה ומשפחתה ונשלחו למנזרים ולכפרים בסביבה, מהם שוחררו בשנת 1945.בשנים השלאחר המלחמה משפחתה עברה לגור באוסטריה ובפולין, ולאחר מכן היגרו לישראל.לאחר מכן החליטה להגר לקנדה.אנחנו נמצאים בצומת היסטורי, יש לנו חלון זמן נדיר בו אחרוני השורדים עדיין איתנו.זיכרון בסלון הוא מיזם חברתי של התכנסויות לא פורמליות סביב יום הזיכרון לשואה ולגבורה.בערב יום השואה, או בימים הסמוכים לו, מתקיימים במקביל מאות אלפי התכנסויות , בישראל ומחוצה לה, שבהן מקשיבים יחד המשתתפים לעדויות של ניצולי שואה ודור שני, חולקים ומשתפים זו את זה בשירים, קטעי קריאה ומחשבות ומקיימים דיונים פתוחים.המיזם הוקם על ידי עדי אלטשולר ונדב אמבון בשנת מאז השתתפו במיזם למעלה מ-2 מיליון איש בישראל ומחוצה לה. לפי המארגנים, היוזמה מיועדת לאנשים המחפשים דרכים נוספות לציין את יום השואה, לצד הטקסים הממלכתיים והצפייה המסורתית בתוכניות הטלוויזיה המוקרנות בערב זה.יוזמה זו מאפשרת לכל אחד לקחת מחדש בעלות ואחריות על עיצוב זיכרון השואה, להבטיח המשך הדיון בה גם אחרי שלא יישארו בינינו ניצולים והשפעה על דרך שבה נזכור ונלמד מהשואה.באירוע, ישתתפו גם השינשינים. השינשינים הם בני נוער שהגיעו מישראל לטורונטו לשנת שירות. הם יקחו חלק בהנחיית האירוע. עבורנו, כשינשינים, השתתפות באירוע מסוג זה ושמיעת עדות של ניצולת שואה זו זכות, ודבר שמוכרחים לעשות במיוחד בימים אלו. בימים שבהם אנו אומרים never again is now, ובימים בהם העם שלנו נמצא במלחמה, זה הזמן לשמוע סיפורים של האנשים שנלחמו על חייהם , והצליחו לשרוד ולהמשיך את המורשת של העם היהודי. אנחנו מאמינים זה הזמן הטוב ביותר לשמוע את סיפורי הניצולים, כי ההזדמנויות לשמוע אותם הולכות ופוחתות. עלינו ולזכור כל סיפור שאנחנו שומעים, ולהעביר אותו הלאה.הכניסה היא חופשית, אך מותנית ברישום.האירוע מתקיים הודות לשיתוף פעולה עם הארגונים הבאים:We are grateful for the ongoing generosity and partnership of the following:Partnership with Emerging Communities, UJA Federation, Mosaic United, The Israeli Connetion at The Miles Nadal JCC and The Israeli Canadian Project at the Shwartz/ Reisman Centre and the Prosserman JCC, The UJA shinshinimהבית הישראלי בקנדהזיכרון בסלוןEynat Katz.
