Ivan Touko

Ivan recently graduated from the University of Alberta in the Bilingual Environmental and Conservation Sciences degree with a certificate in sustainability. Born and raised in Cameroon, Ivan cultivated his passion for Afro dances through Coupé Décalé, Ndombolo, Bensikin, Bikutsi and other contemporary dance styles from West Africa. Since then, he has studied, trained and learned other styles of dance from all over Africa and has also been introduced to a few Caribbean styles of dances. Ivan moved to Edmonton about 8 years ago and trained in traditional West African dances as part of a dance and drumming troupe called SANGEA with whom he performed all over Alberta for over 2 years. Ivan then formed with his peers, his own Afro-fusion dance group named IOLA with whom he performed around Canada for 3 years for various local and international events. Ivan has now been teaching Afro Fusion dance classes and workshops for over 3 years. He currently teaches at at the University of Alberta as part of their recreation program and with La Connexional and Enjaillement Society (two social enterprises he founded) as part of their dance classes, events and workshops. Ivan's skills has given him the chance & opportunity to perform at TEDx UAlberta, Africarnival of Edmonton, Kinesis YEG, UAlberta International Week and many other prestigious events. Ivan has also had the chance to open international shows by recognized artists from Cameroon, Nigeria, Congo and Mexico.
