REEL Canada / Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society

REEL CANADA is a non-profit organization that celebrates Canada through film. Canadian films are the stories we tell about ourselves – they open the door to so many conversations about place, nation, identity, and what it means to be Canadian. REEL CANADA promotes the power and diversity of Canadian film and encourages this on-going conversation through three core programs: Our Films in Our Schools, Welcome to Canada, and National Canadian Film Day. REEL CANADA’s high school program has held over 1000 screenings, reaching 250,000 students, and the Welcome to Canada program has reached almost 13,000 new Canadians through 17 events since 2010. National Canadian Film Day was started as a way to engage all Canadians. Over the past two years we have reached communities like Old Crow, YK, Fort McMurray, AB and Fogo Island, NL, garnered extensive press coverage and reached many Canadians through social media.

THE GULF OF GEORGIA CANNERY SOCIETY is an independent, non-profit society and registered charity whose mission is to preserve the history of Canada’s West Coast fishing industry and to promote it in and engaging and relevant way. Working in partnership with Parks Canada, the Society is responsible for the operation of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site. In addition to operating the site, the Society endeavors to interpret the history of the West Coast Fishing industry through exhibitions, educational programming, and special events.
