Saron Gebresellassi

 

Saron Gebresellassi is an award-winning lawyer and nationally-renowned advocate earning her place in Chatelaine Magazine’s “Top 80 Amazing Canadian Women to Watch” feature. Her experience includes a wide range of criminal, civil and tribunal litigation representing individuals against corporations and a variety of large organizations. Saron Gebresellassi has provided representation at various levels of court, including the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, License Appeals Tribunal, Financial Services Commission of Ontario and Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Ms. Gebresellassi has been counsel on numerous high profile cases representing clients across Canada, the United States and internationally.

Ms. Gebresellassi received her J.D. (Juris Doctorate) from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law where she completed legal studies in both official languages. She completed her Masters degree in Education from the University of Toronto. Saron Gebresellassi is a frequent commentator on legal issues. Her knowledge has been called upon by the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, National Post, CBC, CTV, CityNews and a wide cross-section of community-run outlets. Saron Gebresellassi taught in York University’s Department of Humanities and is often invited by local organizations to deliver legal workshops aimed at improving the community’s knowledge of their legal rights and the judicial system-at-large.

Saron Gebresellassi was the recipient of over 30 private scholarships alongside numerous awards including the YWCA Young Woman of Distinction Award, Women’s Law Association of Ontario and McCarthy Tetrault Community Contribution Award, African-Canadian Achievement Award, University of Toronto African Scholars Award, the BBPA Harry Jerome Leadership Award, Ryerson University National President’s Award, Ontario Arts Council Award, Black Pearls Inc. Award, Future Aces Citizenship Award and received an Honourable Mention by the Right Honourable Ban-ki Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations in his 67th Report to the U.N. General Assembly.
