The King's Chorus

The King’s Chorus is a student society dedicated to making joyful noise together at the University of King’s College in Halifax, NS. We learn and rehearse major choral works from various traditions, and share what we’ve learned with the Halifax community in a concert each semester. These concerts are gaining a reputation in the city for being first-rate choral performances.

The King’s Chorus is committed to fostering a supportive environment where singers of all levels can improve their musicality and enjoy themselves in the process. We sing challenging and beautiful music, but we make sure to have fun while we do, and we cultivate an inclusive and non-competitive atmosphere in which to learn.

Led by Director Nick Halley, the Chorus brings together about 60 students, staff and faculty from Dalhousie and King’s, as well as other community members, to share in the joy of music making each semester.

Founded in the autumn of 2009, we had our debut show the following April, filling Halifax’s Cathedral Church of All Saints. Our repertoire includes classical (both ancient and modern), folk, sacred, and world music. In past seasons the Chorus has performed such classical pieces as Haydn’s Missa Brevis in Tempore Belli and Mozart’s Missa Brevis in B flat, as well as contemporary pieces such as Benjamin Britten’s Saint Nicolas and Paul Winter’s Missa Gaia.

We depend on the generous support of our community to operate, and encourage you to give as you are able so we can continue in our mission.
