About this event

DATES: Saturday OCTOBER 5th - Tuesday OCTOBER 8th, 2024

* 3 nights of aurora chasing during October, with open water and late fall colours allowing for more creative options!

* Close to the equinox when aurora activity tends to increase, especially now that we are trending towards the solar maximum and aurora activity is becoming more regular and intense.

* Timed to the dark, moonless nights of October for maximum effect! The colours of the aurora stand out more to our eyes and in photographs under these types of conditions.

What is included?

  • Aurora Photography, and fall landscapes in the Northwest Territories!
  • Professional photography instruction & expert guidance from a certified guide and licensed NWT tourism operator.

We will chase the Northern lights three nights in a row to a number of locations in and around Yellowknife. The event will start at 2pm on Saturday October 5th and conclude in the morning of Tuesday October 8th.

What is NOT included in the event?

* Accommodation - Contact me for recommendations. We will have a central meeting place close to everyone's accommodation.

* Transport - Car pooling may be available so please get in touch if you are interested in that, but be prepared to organize your own rental car should that possibility not be available.

* Travel, medical & equipment insurance. I highly recommend you purchase these before embarking on this trip.

* Food/drink

* Your flights and travel to Yellowknife, NWT.

What should I bring to the event?

DSLR/Mirrorless camera, wide angle lenses, tripod, filters, camera bag, cold weather clothing - lots of layers, mitts, beanie/toque, insulated boots, thermals, down jacket, hand and toe warmers, face/neck warmer, lots of spare batteries, spare memory cards, headlamp & plenty of energy! I suggest the widest fastest lens that you can bring for capturing the aurora as your most important piece of camera equipment. Ask me for more suggestions!

What are my transportation options for getting to and from the event?

We will be meeting at 2pm in Yellowknife on day 1 of the tour at a central meeting place. Make sure to rent a vehicle to get around in. Carpooling may be available among our group depending on individual comfort levels and current restrictions in effect at the time of the tour but be prepared either way.

What is the weather like at that time of the year?

October temperatures range from -2C to 4C (28-39F) and it can have all 4 seasons as the transition to winter begins.

What is our group size?

The maximum group size will be 8 participants.

What is the refund policy?

Places are non refundable but are transferable. It is the participants responsibility to find a replacement in the event that they have to cancel. Make sure that you have adequate travel, medical, and trip cancellation insurance.
