COVID-19 Safety Protocols:

For those returning and new to our plant sale, things will look a little different this year to follow recommendations from the BC Centre for Disease Control and the BC Association of Farmer’s Markets so that we are doing our part to limit the spread of COVID19.

Here is what you'll need to know:

 The plant sale will take on North Park street: a section will be closed between Chambers and the dead end, and the vendors will be widely spaced along this section of North Park. Staff and volunteers will be wearing masks and gloves. We encourage customers to stay home if unwell. Customers are welcome to wear masks if well and visiting the sale.

 Customers will line up along Chambers street with markings of 6 feet between those waiting to enter the North Park “sales area”. There will be lists of the vendors plant offerings on a large white board at the intersection of Chambers and North Park. These lists will also be made public in advance of the sale on social media and our website. This way you can prepare to make your selections in advance.

 A maximum of 50 shoppers will be allowed through the sales area at a time (i.e. the space between Chambers and the dead end), entering at North Park St and exiting at the dead end of North Park. Customers will visit vendors singly, there will also be chalked markings for spacing while waiting to see a particular vendor. Staff and volunteers will be coordinating the flow of event traffic.

 We will have cardboard flats for holding your plants at the entrance, but please bring your own plant carrying devices as we will run out.

 There will be a one-way flow entering at Chambers St and exiting at the dead end; if you miss something and want to go through again, you are welcome to wait in the line on Chambers and come back through. We recommend arriving with your dream list of plants, and revising based on our signage the day of, so that you don’t forget any as you go through the site.

 When customers arrive at each vendor they will point to their plant selections and vendors will prepare the order. We are discouraging customers from touching and then returning plants to vendors. Cash will be placed in a bucket of soapy water and vendors will have a large float to give change. Note: some vendors may be able to take credit card, but be prepared to pay cash as not all vendors will have this option.

 Our washroom will not be open to the public during the plant sale and our office will be closed for the day. Please go to the washroom before you come to the sale. If you’d like to purchase a composter or seeds please contact us before or after the sale during our office hours (Wednesday – Saturday 10am – 4pm)

 Staff and volunteers will be cleaning high contact surfaces throughout the day. Our team will be available to answer questions, and ensure that folks are aware of and enforcing these safety protocols throughout the sale.

 Do not bring pets to the sale unless they are certified service animals.

The Compost Education Centre is located on unceded and occupied Indigenous territories, specifically the land of the Lekwungen speaking people—the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. These nations are two of many, made up of individuals who have lived within the porous boundaries of what is considered Coast Salish, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Kwakwa'wakw Territory (Vancouver Island) since time immemorial. At the CEC we seek to respect, honour and continually grow our own understandings of Indigenous rights and history, and to fulfill our responsibilities as settlers, who live and work directly with the land and its complex, vital ecologies and our diverse, evolving communities.

Compost Education Centre memberships get you free workshops, discounts at garden centres around town and more great perks!  Sign up or learn more on our website.
