In 2019, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls published their final report titled Reclaiming Power and Place. Grounded in the lived experiences and truths of over 2,000 people affected by staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people in Canada, the report reveals the many pervasive and intentional root causes of the violence and offers 231 individual Calls for Justice directed at governments, institutions, social service providers, industries and all Canadians.
