Short description: This option is only available to those who are ACLS certified within two years of the renewal course. This one-day course is designed for health care providers who participate in the management of adult cardiac arrhythmias, cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest. This course teaches the skills needed to assess and manage care of an adult cardiac arrest with a focus on team dynamics through simulation.

A minimum number of three participants is required to run a Heart and Stroke Foundation certification course. Mackenzie Health reserves the right to cancel the courses should any circumstance beyond the control of Mackenzie Health occurs including, but not limited to, the minimum class size is not met.

Additional Information: A current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certification is required.

Participants must agree to respect the equipment, manikins, facilities, and employees of Mackenzie Health.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to class. You will be practicing skills that require you to work on your hands and knees and the course requires bending, standing, and lifting. If you have any physical conditions that might prevent you from engaging in these activities, please tell an instructor. The instructor may be able to adjust the equipment if you have back, knee, or hip problems.

Food and beverage will not be included.

Participants are responsible to pay for any parking fees that may incur over the period of the course.

Resources: All participants are responsible for obtaining the required reading materials prior to attending the course and allow adequate time for review. Course material is not included in the fee. Course material can be purchased through the Heart and Stroke Resuscitation Portal (select the “Shop” tab). The following are the required materials for this course:

• 2020 Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care for Health Care Providers: RE0130E (Print Only)

Prerequisites:

A current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certification is required. Please note that a BLS certificate from other organizations are not accepted as a prerequisite for Heart and Stroke Courses (e.g. St. John’s Ambulance, etc.).

In order to complete an ACLS Renewal course you are required to have a current ACLS certification within the last 24 months.

You will be asked to provide a valid Heart & Stroke provider certification number in order to confirm prerequisites have been completed.

A Precourse Self-Assessment certification is required for ACLS and PALS. The self-assessment can be found on the Heart and Stroke Portal under each specific Program (select the “Program” tab, select the specific course, then click “Self-Assessment” tab to complete the certification). You must have a passing score of 70 per cent. Certification will expire within three months of completion.
