About this event

This fundraiser for the Algonquin Students' Association Food Cupboard, will celebrate unbirthdays on the smooth concrete floor of the Horticulture Building with lights, grooves, and lots of roller rentals.

All the profits from this unbirthday party will help support the Food Cupboard by ensuring they can continue to reduce food insecurity amongst Algonquin's students.

This fundraiser event is organized by the Ottawa Quad Rollerskating Club, a non-profit and volunteer-run organization dedicated to promoting recreational rollerskating in Ottawa.

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING:


1. TICKET PURCHASE AND REFUND CONDITIONS:

  • Tickets are only available on Eventbrite. Any other platform is NOT a valid source of admission or rental reservations. No transfer, or resale of admission is permitted.
  • YOUTH: Only legal parents/guardians can purchase for their own youths. (16, or 17 y.o.) You can not purchase a ticket for another person's youth. Youth need to wear a helmet while on skate(s).
  • ADULT: Purchase tickets ONLY for yourself. Each adult skater must purchase their own ticket, from a UNIQUE email and complete their OWN waiver.
  • SPECTATORS: Need admission as this includes the waiver for insurance purposes.
  • SEASON PASSES: are not valid for special events


2. SKATES:

  • If you have your own quads, or inlines you are welcome to wear those.
  • Rentals (if needed) MUST be booked as an add-on to your admission in the correct size
  • Rentals purchased without admission are not valid


3. HEALTH PROTOCOLS:

  • Mask optional
  • If you are unwell, do not attend.
  • Subject to revision should the restrictions become greater from national, provincial, or municipal requirements.

ABOUT THE ALGONQUIN STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION FOOD CUPBOARD:

  • Food insecurity can be eliminated. The Algonquin Students' Association Food Cupboard is a discreet and confidential support service that provides students of Algonquin College who are experiencing food insecurity with food and other basic necessities.
  • Profits from this skate session will be used to fund the work of the food cupboard.


ABOUT THE OTTAWA QUAD ROLLERSKATING CLUB:

  • We also go by the name of OQS (Ottawa Quad Session), the weekly events we put together.
  • We're volunteer-run, we're non-profit, we're fun-driven!
  • We run a year-long program of recreational roller skating for our membership and whoever wants to drop in for a spin. We quad weekly most Fridays and throw in a number of roller parties throughout the year for good measure (and fundraising!)
  • What we do is only possible thanks to our beautiful volunteers (yellow shirt peeps). If you want to yellow shirt with us, please reach out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my own skates?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own quads or inlines.

Booking rental skates

-Book them as an add on to your admission and chose the SIZE needed - Usually street shoe size is correct, but if unsure go larger and bring multiple pairs of socks of different thicknesses. There are no half sizes - Please be sure to wear socks regardless

Is safety gear required?

- ! Youth skaters (<18 yo.) MUST wear head protection to participate. - Head and limb protection is strongly recommended for all - We do not provide safety gear. Participants must bring their own.

Where is the venue? What type of floor does it have?

The Horticulture Building is located in NE corner of Lansdowne park. Enter by the South doors near Boccato. The building has polished concrete floors.

Is there somewhere to put my things?

- There will be some hangers and shelves available where people put on their skates. There is no formal coat check available. - Any items worn while skating should be secured so they don' t go flying and cause a trip hazard.

What age or experience do I need to participate?

- All Levels and ages are welcome - Youth under 13 y.o. must be directly supervised by an on skate adult. - Youth need to wear a helmet while on skates - Only legal parents/guardians can purchase for their OWN youth(s) <18 y.o., NOT another person's youth - There is a learning area - No strollers

Can I book tickets for a group?

No, because the waiver is attached to admission. For group purchases, each attendee will need to book their own admission for the same night. You can ONLY purchase a ticket for yourself or your dependent youth (where you are the legal parent/guardian).

Are there transit options?

Yes, Lansdowne is serviced by OC Transpo. Your ticket gets you free transit to and from the event up to 3 hours before and after the event.

Is there parking?

Yes, Lansdowne has paid underground parking. However be aware that depending on how many other events are running at the same time, it may be full. -In the Glebe : https://intheglebe.ca/around-the-glebe/getting-around/

What if tickets are no longer available?

- We run at limited capacity - book early - limited Rentals on site- Only pre-booked sizes are reserved. Edit: admission at the door will be available subject to capacity.

What are the rules for skating?

- The Safe Skating Code will be enforced. All attendees acknowledge the code when booking admission. And of course , as everyone says - have fun!

Where can I take skating lessons?

- We don't offer lessons, but have lots of space to practice what you are learning and eager skaters who are often willing to offer tips and tricks. - The City of Ottawa offers lessons see the Recreation Guide for details. - 4wheelies offers lessons; see their website for details.

Can I practice roller derby at this event?

Unfortunately no. There are a wide variety of skills levels present so we ask that only non contact skating skills be practiced and according to the skating code.

Are tickets available at the door?

- Depending on capacity we may keep Eventbrite tickets open until the event ends, including available rental sizes, but this is not guaranteed. It is best to reserve your spot. - Some tickets at the door may be available - again capacity dependent.
