Autism Ontario Peel ACTTs: Peel Autism Community Together through Sports
Using the recreation model developed by the Special Olympics, Peel ACTTs will feature the FUNdamentals - ADVANCED program for individuals with ASD.
FUNdamentals (from 7-8pm) is an advanced program for children with ASD who are able to follow group instructions independently and generally do not require TA support at school. The participant learns physical literacy; the more fundamental motor skills necessary for activities and sports. The intention is for individuals to participate in school and organized physical activities with confidence. The participants will also learn to interact with one another (team environment) and have fun!
***Suggested age - 9 to 15 years old *** This is a recommended age only. If your child is slightly older and you think they suit this program, please register.
* This program requires caregivers to remain present for the entire 10 weeks of the event and participate when needed.
The program is overseen by 2 facilitators, who are trained IBI therapists, as well as Autism Ontario Volunteers.
DATES: Monday, Oct 3, 17, 24, Nov 7, 14, 21, 28, Dec 5, 12, 19, 2016 from 7-8 pm
LOCATION: Conestoga Public School, 300 Conestoga Dr., Brampton, ON L6Z 3M3
COST: *The cost is FREE. However, due to high interest in this program, a $50 deposit is required. This deposit will be returned to all who attend a minimum of 8 weeks of the program and will be returned at the last class only. Please bring the deposit on the first week - cash or cheque please. If you are not attending the first class, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to make alternative arrangements ahead of time. If this is not done, your spot will not be held.
*NEW* This program will be fully funded by GoodLife Kids! GoodLife Kids Foundation raises funds to support national, provincial and local programs that provide ongoing physical activity opportunities for kids and remove some of the barriers currently holding children back from living a healthy life. *Spaces are limited. Pre-registration is required. Registration opens Tues Sept 13 at 9pm. Registration fills up very fast for this program.
*Children can only be signed up for ONE of the Peel ACTTs programs.
*This event is open to children with ASD only.
*Everyone in the gym must wear running shoes (caregivers/parents too). Please make sure your child comes prepared with the right footwear.
*Children should be dressed in comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle. There is a water fountain on site.
*Sorry but there is no food permitted inside the gym (this includes edible incentives).
*Sorry but there are no non-registered children (unless another adult comes with them) permitted inside the gym. Non-registered children are not permitted to use the equipment nor join the activities.
