In this hands-on class at Saskatoon Makerspace, students will learn the fundamental techniques and tools of blacksmithing, a traditional form of metalworking that involves heating, shaping, and forging metal into functional objects and works of art. Through a combination of demonstrations and supervised practice, participants will learn how to use a forge, anvil, hammers, and other specialized tools to heat, shape, and manipulate metal. The class will cover basic techniques such as tapering, bending, twisting, and punching, as well as safety protocols and best practices. By the end of the class, students will have created their own unique metal project and will have a foundational understanding of the art and science of blacksmithing. This class is suitable for beginners with little to no experience in metalworking. All materials and tools will be provided, but students must wear appropriate clothing and footwear for working with hot metal.
