BLPA Spring Bird Outing 2
Join us on a bird outing to see the birds that make Burnaby Lake their home or transit through on migration
Birds at Burnaby Lake!
It's a great time to visit Burnaby Lake and see the local year-round birds as well as the start of migratory birds that are making a stop there on their way north to their breeding grounds.
Guided Bird Outing
Join BLPA Volunteer leaders as they share their knowledge and passion for birds while wandering through Burnaby Lake trails and at end up at Piper Spit. We’ll listen for calls and songs, enjoy discussion on topics such as bird habitat and plumage, and share tips.
If possible, bring a pair of binoculars that will allow you to identify and enjoy distant birds easily. We will have binoculars to lend out if you do not have your own pair.
We welcome everyone, including people of differing abilities, those who are Black, Indigenous or People of Color (BIPOC), and people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+). We’ll be using Burnaby Lake Regional Park trails which are accessible to wheelchair-users, people who use mobility aids, or child strollers.
Please register each person's name so we have a complete check in list.
What to bring checklist:
Binoculars and a guide book if you have them, birding apps like Merlin Bird ID and eBird if you have them installed on your mobile device.
Please check the forecast and dress for the weather so you are safe and comfortable. Hats allow you to be handsfree. We recommend sturdy shoes for the gravel trails . If sunny, wear a comfortable hat or visor to reduce the glare.
The event will take place rain or shine.
LOCATION:
Burnaby Lake Nature House - we will meet in front of the Nature House kiosk. Look for signs.
If the weather is nice, the parking lot can be very busy. You may need to park along Piper Avenue or at Warner Loat Park right off of Winston which is a 450 m/5 minute walk to the Nature House. There is also a double train tracks crossing which may be blocked from time to time. See map below.
If you would like detailed driving directions or how to get there by transit, click here.
We look forward to seeing you! Space is limited. If you are no longer able to make it, we ask that you cancel your ticket so that someone else may attend.
Register the name of each person attending so they can be checked in properly.
Please add your name to the waitlist if the event appears sold out. People's plans can change and you will receive an email to let you know a spot has opened up.
