The purpose of the Traditional Knowledge Keepers Gathering is to initiate conversation at a community level, surrounding our Nation’s ability to create and write both traditional and contemporary Indigenous Laws. This Gathering will be held at the Lac Seul Events Centre , respectively to capture the unique difference between various regions within Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) territory. The gatherings will help guide the NAN Health Transformation Working Group on Reclamation of Indigenous Laws in the recognition of our laws and jurisdiction; and understanding and acknowledging our inherent right to govern our own communities within a Nation-to-Nation relationship with federal and provincial governments. Large and small group discussion will take place regarding actions that can be taken to protect, revitalize, record, and transfer sacred knowledge to and for future generations. Conversation will explore community-based and community-led strategies to develop a process to write and build on both traditional and contemporary Indigenous Laws. Discussion will also include ways to capture and share teaching, legends, ceremonies, myths, and practices as it relates to health and wellness. In addition, a Youth Lodge will offer land-based activities, teachings, and traditional games.
