Description

Please join us in benefit of WINhouse. Come out and share food and drink and hear how two amazing women are affecting change in our current social and political reality.

We will have lovely door prizes and all registration proceeds from this event will be donated to WINhouse, a local women's shelter.

Our Speakers:

Dr. Cristina Stasia is an award-winning university lecturer and the Director of Instruction at the Peter Lougheed Leadership College. She received her Ph.D. in English, with a specialization in film and feminist theory, from Syracuse University. In recognition of her teaching excellence and innovative pedagogy in the Faculty of Arts, she received the William Hardy Award for Excellence in University Teaching and, via the Last Lecture competition, was voted by students as one of the top three most inspiring instructors at the University of Alberta. Her commitment to experiential learning and putting theory into practice via community engagement lead to being recognized as one of Edmonton’s “Top 40 Under 40” by Avenue magazine, and as a YWCA Woman of Distinction nominee in the Educator category. In addition to academia, Cristina is founder and chief consultant of Level Consulting; in her role as a gender equity consultant she has worked with clients including the City of Edmonton, provincial ministries, private businesses, and community groups to address equity gaps in policy and best practices. She is the founder and chair of AIM (Accessing Information not Myths), a group of stakeholders advocating for medically-accurate, queer-inclusive, consent-based sex ed. She has served on numerous boards including SAVE (Sexual Assault Voices of Edmonton), AIM (Accessing Information not Myths), ETSAB (Edmonton Transit Service Advisory Board), and was a founding member of WAVE (Women’s Advocacy Voice of Edmonton).

Kendall Barber is a local entrepreneur and co-founders of Poppy Barley, a local shoe company redefining luxury footwear while employing ethical manufacturing practices at their factory in Mexico. Kendall has committed time to serving the community as a member of 1000 Women Advisory Committee for Norquest College, a board member for YWCA Edmonton, and a supporter for Hope Mission Kids in Action. Kendall was named a Global Edmonton Woman of Vision and was named by Avenue magazine in 2014 as one of Edmonton's Top 40 Under 40.
