Gail Hall was a caterer, Red Seal chef, educator, writer, media personality, culinary tour leader, local food advocate, and cooking school operator. Her passing on November 16, 2016 was marked by the culinary, theatre, education, and media communities. In accordance with her wishes a pot-luck dinner in celebration of Gail’s life and legacy will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 5 to 9 pm at Pleasantview Hall in Edmonton.
Each family group should bring one dish that was inspired by Gail Hall. Bring enough for your family and 2-3 other people. Include a 5 x 7 card with the story of the dish and the recipe. Detail the ingredients so that those with allergies can be selective. The recipes will be collected and shared later.
In the Jewish tradition, a small stone is placed on the headstone when you visit a grave. Gail’s physical remains will be present and you are invited to bring a pea-sized pebble to place by the urn. No other cards, flowers, or gifts are required.
At the pot-luck, we will announce the creation of the G.A.I.L. Fund through the Edmonton Community Foundation. Collected funds will be used to support programs that encourage young chefs to cook and improve their lives through healthy eating. You will be invited to contribute to the Fund with donations, gifts, and PBS-style purchases. Although there is no charge to attend the pot-luck, be prepared to make a contribution before you leave.
Total attendance is limited to 200 people. Tickets are based on your preferred attendance time and pot luck item category that you wish to bring. We also created a volunteer ticket since we'll need help to set up, tear down and manage logistics before, during and after the event. Dinner dishes, cutlery, and servingware will be provided although disposable containers for your dish are recommended or label your containers for identification.
There will be a slide show, short program, and an open mic so bring your (short) stories about Gail to share. If the event sells out or you are unable to attend you can still make a donation to the Foundation on this site. Receipts will be sent out after the potluck.
Thanks to the Kitchen Table Girls and many of Gail’s friends for planning this pot-luck. Gail’s legacy lives on through all those who buy local, cook simply, eat healthy, and share their life with others.
