About this Event

Most of us start the day with a cup of coffee. But have you ever wondered about the science behind our favourite beverage?

In celebration of National Chemistry Week, The CIC Toronto Section presents:

Chemistry ♥s Coffee

Join us for coffee cupping at Pop Coffee Works and learn about the science of how coffee is processed, roasted, and brewed!

Our guest speaker for the event is Abe Chen, coffee roaster, barista, and co-owner of Pop Coffee Works. He will share his wealth of knowledge about coffee and lead the cupping event. For more information about Abe, feel free to read his bio below.

General admission is only $5!

Abe Chen's Bio:

“I have always loved tasting things throughout my life, while studying business during my college years, one of my other biggest passion were learning about beverages, specifically tea and coffee. Later on, I decided to start a career in coffee. Prior to starting the business in Toronto, I travelled to a couple of coffee origins, completed the CQI Q Arabica Grader course, Q processing level 1, and finished all programs in the Specialty Coffee Association Pathways. The programs had created a solid foundation knowledge for me to understand the science behind coffee growing, processing, roasting and brewing. It allows me to make rational judgment and decision in coffee buying and making. Coffee making is an art and craftsmanship.”
