About this event

In this class, River City Chickens will build on the topics covered in their "Chickens 101" class, making use of videos to demonstrate multiple aspects of urban hen-keeping. Established in 2007, River City Chickens has worked with several municipalities to develop their urban hen programs. The class is taught by experienced instructors, including a veterinarian. We will take an in-depth look at some urban coop designs, and cover practical aspects of hen-keeping, including wing, nail, beak and vent care.

The learning objectives of this class include:

• Confidence in coop design, construction and cleaning

• Environmental enrichment ideas

• Confident handling of your hens

• Safely perform hen-care procedures

• Recognize symptoms of sick hens

• Perform a hen health inspection

• Understand frostbite prevention and care

• Recognize and manage common chicken ailments

Class size is limited to promote questions and discussion. Previous participation in "Chickens 101", or some hen-keeping knowledge, is recommended.

Chickens 201 is neither required, nor approved, to obtain a hen license for the cities of Edmonton , St Albert, Airdrie or Leduc. Please see our Chickens 101 course if you require a certified hen-keeping course.
