Description

The future of 91.3 FM in Drumheller and Hanna is uncertain.

Bell Media owns the tower that houses CKUA’s 91.3 FM transmitter. They have decided to decommission that tower in April.

Relocation will mean not only a disruption in service, but a significant investment. On paper the business case doesn’t support continuing this service at all. BUT we’re looking beyond the numbers because we know how vital CKUA is to its communities.

CKUA is your friend on long highway drives, and over countless hours spent in the fields. It’s your Made In Alberta connection to music from across the province. It’s your source of music variety and discovery through the stories our talented and passionate hosts tell. It’s your sense of place and belonging in an increasingly complex world - and we don’t want to lose that connection with you.

We are committed to maintaining service to the best of our abilities. But, we need help to do so.

CEO Marc Carnes will be visiting Drumheller and Hanna for town halls to:

1) Find out if there are other tower options available, beyond the ones we’re currently aware of.

2) Understand how much of an impact FM signal loss would have to our listeners, knowing that CKUA is also available through online streaming and our app.

3) Determine whether there is willingness for the community to help fund this effort, knowing that CKUA is a community supported organization and this is an extraordinary circumstance.

Join Marc in Drumheller on Wed Dec 12th or in Hanna on Thurs Dec 13th to share your thoughts, suggestions and concerns. You can help determine the future of CKUA in your area.
