Description

NCW Banner
National Coaches Week celebrates the tremendous positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities across Canada. From September 23-30, there’s an opportunity to recognize coaches for the integral role they play by simply saying #ThanksCoach. Additionally, $10 NCCP Courses and events are being held across the country to celebrate coaching and provide coaches with the recognition they deserve.

Topic: Athlete Resilience

What the best athletes and the most successful people have in common is not that they do not make mistakes. They all do. However, they have an incredible ability to recover from these mistakes. Simply stated, it is the ability to bounce back positively after a mistake, mishap, loss or any negative situation. What is critical to realize, is that resiliency is not a personality trait or behavioral style. Resiliency is a skill anyone can learn.

Guest Presenter: Scott Clark

Clark has been a CIS coach for 20 years, joining the WolfPack from Simon Fraser University, and is currently the TRU Basketball Men's Head Coach. He has an alltime record with TRU of 57-69. TRU has been above .500 the last three seasons and their record this year was the best in school history.

Clark preaches ‘team ahead of individual’ success. 2016 saw the WolfPack win their first ever Canada West divisional title. They then won a playoff series with the University of Regina Cougars in three games. That victory allowed them a berth in the Canada West final four for the first time. The WolfPack downed the UBC Thunderbirds in the semi finals. Because UBC was the host team for the CIS FInal 8, the win secured Thompson RIvers their first ever berth in Canadian Basketball's 'Big Dance." This success earned Scott the distinction of Canada West Coach of Year for 2015/16.

These casual lunch & learn events are a great opportunity for Coaches and Sport Administrators to learn from presenters in various fields and network with other coaches. We meet every 2 months, usually on the 2nd Thursday of the month. There is no fee to attend; however, if you'd like a bite to eat, that's on you. We wish we could treat our community coaches to lunch every time we meet!!
