About this event

  • 2 hours

Join us on Sunday, May 5 from 9:30-11:30 am for this exciting event focused on Zero-Waste Living, where we’ll be exploring together how to consume less, share more, minimize waste, and live more lightly on the Earth. This is the fifth in a series of Coffeehouses on Sustainability, in which Ottawa residents have been coming together for a coffee, cookie and conversions on topical sustainability issues.

Mark your calendars and bring along your favourite mug to enjoy some fresh-brewed coffee courtesy of Bridgehead, Happy Goat Coffee and the Wild Oat, and a cookie from the Whole Foods Market. Together, we’ll explore the many innovative ways in which individuals, organizations and businesses are already making strides towards greater circularity and reducing waste throughout Ottawa. We'll be sharing experiences, tips and community resources. If you are curious to learn more about what zero waste is all about, or even daunted by the sound of it, this event is for you!

We're thrilled to have two special guest speakers join us for the event: Valerie Leloup, CEO of NU Grocery, will open the session with “Buy Less, Buy Better: An Introduction to Zero Waste Living”, followed by Caroline Wilcox, Communications Lead for Foodsharing Ottawa, who will ponder “From Food Waste to Zero Waste: Can it Happen?”. Small group discussions will be animated by knowledgable community members on a variety of topics - from how to set up a zero waste pantry in your home, to how to initiate waste reduction projects in your community, to how to extend your zero waste lifestyle into death through natural burial. Or have your burning questions about garbage/recycling/composting answered and try your hand at the City's Waste Sorting Challenge!

You’ll also be able to meet local organizations and businesses working hard to support circularity and turn would-be-waste into a valuable resource - both for our community’s well-being and to regenerate Mother Earth. Information tables include: the Ottawa Tool Library, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Re4rm, Foodsharing Ottawa, Box of Life, All-Eco Zero Waste Shop, the Green Needle, Bee You Creative Styles, CAFES Ottawa, Waste Watch Ottawa and City of Ottawa Solid Waste Services. The Ottawa Public Library will also be there with an array of relevant books - so don’t forget your library card!We encourage you to register through Eventbrite to help us predict attendance, but you will not be asked for an Eventbrite ticket at the door.
