Description

Concordia Makes Games 2018

Concordia Makes Games 2017 was a success, so the Concordia Game Development club is back for round 2. If you participated last year then you’ll be pleased to hear that the event is back, and this time with lunch included! If you didn’t make it over and you have no idea what I’m talking about, then read on...

Do you go to Concordia? Do you want to make a game in a weekend?

Then this event is for you! Come join us for a weekend of creativity, innovation, and learning! Concordia Makes Games is a chance to learn about game design, to meet new people, and to get hands-on experience with game development and prototyping, whether this is your first game jam or your tenth.

What is a Game Jam?

A Game Jam connects all types of game developers, amateur enthusiasts, professionals, artists, students and passionate bystanders during a weekend-long event where people come together to plan, design and create a game, then show it off at the end.

NOTE: This does not have to be a video game! You can decide your own medium, be it cardboard, hide and seek-like, or any other creative shape a game could possibly be.

Participants form teams who work together to produce a game from start to finish over the weekend. With our dedicated mentors and our CMG Starter Pack™*not actually a trademark, those with little or no experience will have the resources and gain the know-how to effectively contribute to their team.

Concordia Makes Games isn’t just about producing a game, it’s about creation, design, teamwork, learning, and problem solving. If you’re curious about what goes into game development, then Concordia Makes Games will be an event you’ll enjoy.

Who can participate?

Any student registered at Concordia can attend this event for 10$. If you want to bring a friend who's not registered at Concordia, you can buy them a ticket. Feel free to message the club if you have no Concordia connection but are interested in attending. Concordia Makes Games is accessible to any student. We welcome artists, developers, enthusiasts, game designers, sound designers, writers, animators, and more. If you have an interest in any aspect of game design, you are invited to attend!

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. You do not need to be an expert. You do not need to have created a game. Concordia Makes Games is a great introduction into the world of game design. Our organizers and mentor teams are all dedicated to helping you no matter your skill level. We welcome everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background.

Starter-Pack

The CMG Starter-Pack is a pre-packaged bundle of software and tutorials sent to all participants in Concordia Makes Games. It contains helpful links and tutorials to prepare for the Game Jam, as well as information on the game engine Unity, which is what CGD recommends for this event.
