About this event

On May 30, 2023, the University of Toronto is hosting "Migration and Health in the Anthropocene," a virtual symposium set to address a key contemporary challenge: the impact of the multiple and interconnected crises underlying human mobility and health that we are currently facing in the so-called Anthropocene. This term is used as a loose and broader metaphor for the “crisis of the customary,” highlighting the global nature of the economic, social, demographic, political, and cultural challenges which require interdisciplinary responses. The only hope to successfully confront them is by acknowledging their nature and moving beyond national borders to build solidarity and concerted action.

This interdisciplinary virtual session invites researchers, practitioners, educators, and collaborators from across industries and sectors in the Americas to discuss these issues of shared regional interest under the banner of Continental Solidarity. Here is an opportunity to share diverse perspectives, welcome insights, and explore the potential for further collaboration to advance migration and health teaching, practice and research.

The symposium will feature a moderated Panel Discussion and a moderated Research and Practice Showcase Series, followed by a Collaborative Breakout Session that engages all attendees in small breakout conversations and ideation. The symposium will conclude with a summary of the outputs and direct audience members to next steps for resource access after the event.

Note: This event will be primarily hosted in English, with access options for multi-lingual engagement.
