Ever dreamed of becoming a naturalist for the day?


Unleash your inner explorer and join CPAWS Manitoba at Cresent Drive Park for a fun Nature Discovery Backpack event!


Our Nature Discovery Backpacks are specially curated to help you explore and learn about the wildlife and landscapes of Manitoba. Each backpack contains:

  • Manitoba field guides (birds, trees, tracks, scat, and mammals)
  • Water quality testing kit
  • Binoculars
  • Collection jars
  • A take-home workbook


Here's how it works:

Register through Eventbrite per backpack required. If you are attending as a group or a family but would like to share a backpack, just register as a single person.

Meet us at the Park, borrow a nature discovery backpack, join us for a group walk and thenset off on an adventure through Crescent Drive Park! You and your family can explore the beauty of nature while learning about the environment around you.

Participants will also receive an extended learning workbook to take home and learn with all summer long.

Workbook activities include:

  • Observing squirrel behaviour
  • Nature crossword puzzles
  • Tree identification
  • Leaf rubbing
  • Birding

This is your chance to explore the great outdoors and dive into the world of nature-based learning and hands-on science.

The event is designed for kids aged 6-12, but children and families of all ages are welcome to participate. These Nature Discovery Backpacks can also be used by adults!

These backpacks are used for CPAWS Manitoba educational programs, including classroom field trips and other public events.


Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature, learn about the amazing wildlife that calls Manitoba home, and explore the great outdoors with your family.


Space is limited, so please register early to secure your spot in one of the time slots. Please register per backpack you will require (if you are attending as a group or a family but would like to share a backpack, just register as a single person).


We will meet at site 3 in Crescent Drive Park.

CPAWS Manitoba takes the safety of all program participants seriously.

All CPAWS Manitoba staff members have cleared a criminal record and vulnerable sector background check with the Winnipeg Police Department. We adhere to all public health recommendations and guidelines.

CPAWS policy requires that at least one person leading programming that may involve children must be certified in first aid. This applies to staff or to volunteers.
