Cyanotypes on Fabric and Paper Workshop

Learn how to combine art and science to make beautiful cyanotype prints.

Cyanotype, also known as blueprint, is an early form of photography. Placing an object on paper or fabric coated in ferric ammonium and potassium ferricyanide and exposing it to sunlight produces a photochemical reaction that darkens the exposed surface and leaves a detailed impression of the object. Water is then used to develop and fix the image.

This unique art form requires careful attention to placement and exposure times, but the results can be stunning!

What you will learn:

Participants will gain hands-on experience with the cyanotype process and learn the basic process to start your practice.

  • A brief history of cyanotype, as well as viewing examples to spark your creativity.
  • All the steps required to create your cyanotype prints.
  • How to create different compositions and use objects to add visual interest to your prints.
  • Identify potential problems and avoid basic errors with these tips.

What is this workshop's project?

Select botanic (flowers and leaves, or any other flat objects) and media (paper and fabric) to print your elements using cyanotype technique.

Who is this workshop for?

Whether you are a photography enthusiast or simply curious about alternative printing methods, this workshop is perfect for you! This process is a great activity for anyone wanting to explore their creative side.
