Week 1: July 8-12, 2024
Ages 9-11
9:00am to 4:00pm
This exciting summer camp is for children ages 9-11 and led by our skilled Cycling Ambassadors. Over the course of five days, campers will learn how to cycle safely through a series of fun and engaging classroom sessions, bicycle training sessions, skill drills, games and exciting cycling trips throughout the beautiful Kingston, Ontario. Days are focused on learning valuable cycling skills and safety techniques on the roads that riders will use for life.
Campers will enjoy:
- Learn about how bikes work, and how to get ready for a ride.
- Learn the basics of traffic situations and rules of the road for cyclists.
- Practice on-bike skills and drills, like turning, stopping, checking behind, signalling, positioining, gearing, emergency maneuvers, and more.
- Play fun outdoor games and activities to reinforce skills (like red light green light, skill drill relay competition, freeze tag, etc.)
- Ride to local parks and playgrounds, and around the area on neighbourhood streets
- Plan and take a ride along the K&P trail.
- Pay a visit to Gear Up bike shop to learn about the mechanics of your bike.
- Enjoy waterparks and a daily swim at the Memorial Centre pool.
- Wrap up the week with a bike trip to Wolfe Island
A complete camp schedule, including a list of what to bring, will be sent out around the end of March.
All participants will need a working bicycle that fits them, and a certified bicycle helmet. We will require an inspection of the bike and helmet prior to the camp. Cycle Kingston may be able to assist (through it's Gear Up bike shop) in accessing a bicycle.
