About this event

Abstract:

Our panel of amazing experts will talk us through the tools of the trade for a Data Scientist. All the way from importing, modeling and cleaning your data to analyzing, visualizing and applying predictive algorithms. We'll also chat about the often overlooked tools for collaborating with your team and sharing your analysis online.

With GeoWomenYYC's "Data By Design" datathon we want to focus on designing an analysis over hard coding skills. We see coding and algorithms as useful tools but ultimately a means to an end. We will continue the Data Tools Discussion over on our Slack workspace where we hope to generate discussion around various open source tools, where to get training and how to build a portfolio.

We hope you will join us on Slack.

Meet our panel:

  • Corine Jansonius: Data Modeler, Data Profiler, Data Analyst, Data Architect
  • Paula Jennings: UofC Course Instructor "Introduction to Business Intelligence" and "Visual Analytics".
  • Gagan Kapoor: AltaML; Machine Learning Team Lead
  • Evan Saltman: MyHEAT; Software Developer

The "Data By Design" Project is a subgroup within the GeoWomen Community who are interested in honing their skills in the fundamentals of data literacy, data team components and defining data science problems. The project is designed for the data enthusiast who wants to initiate their data understanding and conceptualization either before or in conjunction to a deeper analytical practice. Participants will gain the appropriate knowledge to challenge and bolster data ideas in their own organizations.
