Course Description

Immerse yourself in the world of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) with this comprehensive introduction. This workshop will provide access to practical tools and exercises for immediate application in your professional sphere. You will learn about DBT's four main components and explore the flexible DBT frameworks for situations where the conventional approach isn't applicable. By the time you’re finished, you'll have a working understanding of DBT's adaptability, versatility, and the positive changes it can bring about for those struggling with intense emotions and/or impulse control disorders.

This workshop includes small group work and hands-on practice, it's all about learning by doing! We're hoping you're ready to jump in and get involved.

There will be designated Q&A segments integrated throughout to ensure you have an opportunity to get clarification on any questions you may have.

  • Get a feel for the basics of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
  • Take a tour of the history of DBT, how it came to be and how it's grown over the years.
  • Understand the functionality of DBT, what it does and how it fits into the therapy world.

Facilitator Biography

Lori Glenn

Lori Glenn is a highly regarded Registered Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. A proud graduate of Trent University with a degree in psychology emphasizing education, Lori also holds a Behavioural Science Diploma from St. Lawrence College and a Masters of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.

As a clinical supervisor, Lori has guided numerous budding therapists into the professional space. She operates a thriving hybrid clinic based in Cobourg, Ontario, and has facilitated multiple therapy workshops, actively contributing to the mental wellness of her local community.

Lori's journey with mental health is both professional and personal. She navigates her world with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), experiencing the ups and downs, the challenges, and victories that come with striving for and maintaining wellness and balance. This lived experience informs her authentic and respectful approach to therapy, equipping her to better serve clients facing similar challenges.

Lori is passionate about offering help for a variety of issues including addiction, eating disorders, and ADHD. Drawing from her own experiences and her extensive educational background, she is dedicated to helping others overcome their challenges and find more balance and harmony in their lives.

Who should attend this workshop?

This workshop is designed specifically for helping professionals. We define "helping professional" as anyone in a position of interacting with people in providing a service.

How many people can attend?

Registration for this workshop has been capped at 36 participants.

What precautions will be in place regarding COVID-19?

Details on COVID precautions will be sent to registrants one week before the workshop. While we hope to be able to run this session, we may have to change or cancel it if new restrictions or issues come up.

Will food be provided?

Coffee, tea, and light snacks are included. Lunch will not be provided. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the Lions Centre. Please feel free to contact us for recommendations.

Is the venue accessible?

The Lions Centre is wheelchair accessible (lift and washroom facilities) and climate-controlled.

Is there parking?

There are 40 private parking spots and an overflow area, but come early as spaces can fill up fast! Street parking is also available.

What is a level one partner workshop?

This refers to a workshop that is being put on by another organization or individual with the support of A Question of Care. It is also being offered at a more basic, 101 level, though it can be beneficial to anyone regardless of their experience.

Will I receive a certificate for attending?

Yes, you will receive a certificate of attendance after participating in the workshop and filling out a post-course evaluation.

What is your refund policy?

We can offer refunds up to seven days before the workshop. Eventbrite's fee is nonrefundable. After this period, we can accept substitutions. If we must cancel the workshop, you will receive a full refund. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
