Downtown St. Catharines Community Planting

Join us for a community planting event in the heart of the Garden City! Let's roll up our sleeves and beautify our city together. We'll be greening up the urban landscape by planting colourful flowers and lush greenery in city beds. Come connect with neighbours, enjoy some fresh air, and make a lasting impact on our urban environment. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Let's grow together!

Morning Planting

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. EST

Afternoon Planting

1 p.m. - 3 p.m. EST

When: Thursday, May 9, 2024 (Rain Date - Friday, May 10, 2024)

Where: Meet at Silver Spire United Church (366 St Paul St)

This event will take place rain or shine. In the event of thunder and lightning, we will move the planting day to Friday.

TIPS & TRICKS

• Dress appropriately: Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work. Consider bringing sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. If you have personal gardening equipment, you are welcome to bring it.

• Stay hydrated: Bring a water bottle and remember to take regular breaks to hydrate, especially if it's a hot day.

• Listen to instructions: Pay attention to any guidelines or instructions provided by the event organizers or team leaders. They'll help you make the most impact and ensure everyone's safety.
  

ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS

The planting will require kneeling, bending and repetitive motions. We are happy to accomodate volunteers to the best of our abilities. We encourage anyone with accessibility needs to contact us ahead of the planting.

After more than 60 years of faithful service our Boiler, affectionately named Chugger, has decided to retire. His more energy-efficient replacement was installed last fall and Silver Spire is now able to continue with the many ways we support the downtown community. Now we have to pay off the loan. The total cost of the project was slightly over $300,000 and we have raised $220,000 so far.

Note that your donation is for the Boiler Fund and if you include your address, we will send a charitable donation receipt early next year.
