About this event

Educational Nature Walk - A case of adapting to Nature!

We originally planned a stewardship event to remove invasive species for Earth Day. However, we discovered nesting birds in the area. Working too close to the nests can stress out the parents and have them spend energy trying to scare us away from their nest.

To avoid stressing out the birds, we have changed our event to a nature walk and opened this activity up to the community.

At this event, BLPA Coordinator Natasha will teach the group how they can help out nature in many different ways. Topics include native and invasive plants, birds, wildlife, pollinators, trees "talking" to each other, bats and more! You will have the opportunity to learn about the BLPA and our activities and how you may join our wonderful community of volunteers who want to help Nature.

This is going to be a walk with several stops along the way so features can be pointed out to you and you will have the opportunity to ask questions. We will not be walking the entire time and cover about 3 km.

Please note exisitng volunteers: We will now meet at the Nature House and NOT at Lenson. Map is below.

The Burnaby Lake Park Association was founded in 1972* and has been an active volunteer organization leading stewardship activities that preserve, restore, and protect Burnaby Lake Regional Park’s ecological integrity. They connect people with nature through habitat restoration and enhancement such as their invasive species removal program Weedbusters and Nestbox Monitoring, education and outreach in the community. The BLPA is an advocate for environmentally responsible management of Burnaby Lake Regional Park to ensure it is a legacy for future generations. We work in conjunction with Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Interpreters to help people discover the great outdoors!

The BLPA acknowledges that our work is situated on the the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples. We offer immense gratitude and thanks to the nations and the Indigenous peoples who have long been protectors of the lands and the waters that house and nourish us and allow us to do this work to restore and protect Burnaby Lake Regional Park.
