Description
Description
This workshop is designed to demonstrate how to use empathy mapping to collaboratively develop deeper insights into the experience of patients with both physical and mental health needs. Facilitators will describe the importance of considering empathy in healthcare service design and, by example, demonstrate the use of empathy mapping to develop services for patient populations. The process of empathy mapping includes interviewing, mapping thoughts and feelings as well as using the insights generated to articulate clear and concise problem statements. You will also learn how to utilize developed statements to create potential solutions and prototype them. Participants will have the opportunity to practice this methodology by interacting with a lived experience expert. This event is accredited for Mainpro+ and Section 1 credits/hours. Upon successful completion of this workshop, attendees can claim 3.0 hours/credits
Who Should Register?
The MP3C Fondational courses and workshops are designed for all healthcare providers (i.e. nurses, physicians, social workers, occupational and physical therapists, primary care, etc.), as well as managers and administrators in primary care, hospital, long-term care and community care settings who are working with patients and families to address complex care needs, with a particular focus on co-existing mental and physical needs.
About the Medical Psychiatry Collaborative Care Certificate
As part of a new approach to the education of health care providers, the Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA) is offering the Medical Psychiatry Collaborative Care Certificate (MP3C), a continuing education program to support learning in integrated mental and physical collaborative health care. The program aims to provide education resources for health care providers who would like to be better equipped to assess and manage patients with co-existing mental and physical health needs.
The assessment, management and prevention of integrated mental and physical health remains a challenge in our health care system. Health care providers and their teams are faced with increasing complexity of patients with co-existing mental and physical health needs as a common, clinical issue in daily practice. To address these needs, the MP3C will provide innovative and accessible education for practicing health care providers across health care sectors and patient populations.
